We can trace our heritage to the Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock in search of religious freedom. Consequently, we cherish a person's individual journey in faith. We regard Jesus as our Savior and Lord, but no subscription to a set creed is required for membership in our church. We emphasize the value of banding together for common worship and to help each other lead Christ centered lives. There are many interpretations of what Congregationalists believe, but central are two distinctive matters: personal faith in God through Jesus Christ and freedom to live in voluntary association with other believers.
These characteristics lead us to investigate our faith and determine how we believe God is leading our congregation. First Congregational Church of Burlington is an active member of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches and the Iowa-Nebraska Association of Congregational Churches.
VISION STATEMENT
The gathered free people of First Congregational Church acknowledge the church as the Body of Christ under the headship of our Lord. We shall endeavor to recognize where God is at work and have the courage to follow where the Spirit leads.
