GOVERNING BOARDS
CHURCH COUNCIL
- Generally coordinates the work of all boards and acts as an interim committee between congregational meetings
- Consists of the Moderator, co-chairs of the Diaconate Board, chairs of Trustees, Missions, Christian Ed., and Music Boards; Church Historian, Church Representative, Women's Felowship President, and Pilgrim Fellowship representative (not currently).
- Is responsible for recommending new minister to the congregation upon recommendation of Pastoral Search Comm.; appoints annual Nominating Committee
- Responsible for compilation and publication of church's annual report
- Appoints delegates to local, state, and national meetings
- Calls special meetings for congregational votes
- Constructs and interprets the church's constitution and bylaws
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
- Responsible for acquisition, control, management. improvement, and disposal of all church property and the collection, conservation, and disbursement of church funds
- Audits Treasurer's books
- 12 members with four standing committees: Property, Personnel, Special Events, Finance
DIACONATE BOARD
- 15 members with five standing committees: Worship, Communion, Friendship, Visitation, Ushering
- Responsible for the religious activities and spiritual growth of the church in close cooperation with the minister
- Ministers to elderly, shut-in, and ill members of the congregation
- Helps to welcome new members
- Provides ushers, greeters, candlelighters, communion servers, and other personnel necessary to the church service
- Provides for the coffee hour following Sunday services
MISSIONS BOARD
- Investigates and promotes all mission activities of the church locally, nationally, and abroad
- Consists of nine members
- Provides fresh food assistance to local food pantries
- Prepares a special mission budget and disperses available funds throughout the year
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION BOARD
- Consists of nine members
- Establishes, promotes, and supervises the religious education program for the church's children and adults
- Sponsors Jesus' birthday party in December
- Helps to plan the Lenten programs
- Provides for teacher training
- Works to assist the leadership for the Pilgrim Youth Fellowship
- Provides the supervisory board for Small World Preschool
- Assists with other special planning during the church year including youth Christmas and Easter programs
- Plans and executes Vacation Bible School and summer Sunday school sessions
MUSIC BOARD
- Consists of five members
- Is responsible for the creation, promotion, and supervision of all church music activities including vocal choirs, bell choirs, special music, and the hosting of guest musicians
- Prepares music budget to provide for directors' compensation and the purchase of sheet music, and other supplies
- Oversees and arranges for proper maintenance of the church's instruments including the organ, grand piano and Clavinova
- Assists in the hiring process for church organist and choral directors
HISTORICAL BOARD
- Consists of seven members
- Responsible for collection and preservation of all matters and documents of historical importance to the church
- Maintains the church archives and assists with requests for historical information by church members and by others from outside the church
WOMEN'S FELLOWSHIP
- Currently consists of two church circles: Alliance Circle which meets in the daytime and the Margaret Nairn Guild which meets in the evening
- Sends representative to the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches annually
- Provides funding for various charitable programs
- Provides for special fellowship among the women of the church
CHURCH REPRESENTATIVE
- Represents the church at Burlington Area Council of Churches' functions and assists in promoting interdenominational understanding among the various local churches
- Attends, when possible, state and national meetings of Congregational churches
